Two new zoom lenses
for the Pentax 645N range
February 23, 2002
Standard and wide-angle
zoom for even more flexibility
With the 645 N, Pentax made history in the medium format sector. The first 4.5 x 6
single-lens reflex camera with autofocus has secured its outstanding position among the
pros as the ideal outdoor tool. With the 645N II, at the end of 2001 Pentax presented a
version which has been optimized in line with the photographers specific wishes.
At the PMA in February 2002
Pentax is showing two new lenses for these two models. These new lenses will enhance even
further the already remarkable flexibility of use of the convenient medium format cameras.
Both lenses are being shown for the first time at the PMA 2002 and will be available in
the spring of 2002.

Ultra
wide-angle: Pentax SMC-FA 645 Zoom 33-55 mm/F4.5 AL |

|
Creative
mid-format photography is unthinkable without the possibility of taking wide-angle
pictures. The new ultra wide-angle for the Pentax 645 range covers the traditional
wide-angle focal lengths (approx. 20 mm 35 mm in 35 mm systems) in a single lens
and thus saves the photographer the trouble of changing lenses to say nothing of
the weight saving in outdoor work. The lens consists of eleven elements in eight groups
with two aspherical elements for maximum image quality. While the hybrid element minimizes
distortions right out to the edges, the glass element prevents aberrations over the entire
zoom range. Naturally, the new wide-angle zoom has the exclusive Pentax "ghostless
coating" to prevent ghosting and to ensure sharp, high-contrast pictures even of
backlit subjects.
The close-up range starts at 40 cm over the whole zoom range at up to 0.21 life
size at the 55 mm zoom setting. It is possible to change over to manual focusing. |

Standard-Zoom:
Pentax SMC-FA 645 Zoom 55110 mm/F5.6 |

Light, compact,
fast the new standard zoom lens offers a wide variety of features for the widest
range of subjects. The lens consists of nine elements in nine groups and has two exclusive
Pentax innovations. On the one hand it has an extra-low dispersion (ED) element, and on
the other hand it has the original Pentax "ghostless coating" for sharp,
brilliant and high-contrast pictures even of backlit subjects. The field of view extends
from 65° to 35° (corresponding to that of a 35 - 70 mm zoom in 35 mm systems). The new
zoom allows close-ups starting at 80 cm at up to 0.16 life-size. The focusing can be
changed over to manual. |
