Asahi Optical Co., Ltd. is pleased to announce the marketing of the Pentax ESPIO95WR zoom compact camera, which features the highest water shielding capability (JIS Class 5) of any zoom compact camera available today (except for its popular sister model, the Pentax ESPIO105WR). Thanks to the combination of a completely watertight construction and compact, lightweight body, the ESPIO95WR floats on the water and is washable even after being soaked in salt water. In addition to its weather-resistant construction, the ESPIO95WR offers a 38mm~95mm 2.5-times zoom lens with zoom macro capability, user-friendly point-and-shoot operation made possible by its advanced autofocus and auto-exposure systems, a high-power auto zoom flash, a panorama mode, a large LCD data panel, and a host of other features. The cameras compact dimensions and fashionable design make it ideal for use not only in and around the water, but also for more common daily applications.

Major Features of the Pentax ESPIO95WR

1. Compact, lightweight body with weather-resistant construction*

The ESPIO95WRs body is designed not only to be compact only 132mm wide, 76mm high and 58.5mm thick (5.2 x 3.0 x 2.3 inches) and lightweight at a mere 360 grams (12.7 ounces), but it is also completely watertight, thanks to the use of special shielding mechanisms. It can be used anywhere around the water at the beach or the pool, for marine sports, or even in the snow. It can then simply be washed with fresh water when it gets dirty or has been in contact with salt water. Since it floats, the camera can be easily recovered when it is accidentally dropped into the water. A unique resin protective layer covering most of the front panel, including the grip, assures a firm hold of the camera even when it is wet.

* This camera is not designed for underwater use.

2. High-performance 38mm~95mm zoom lens

The ESPIO95WRs 38mm~95mm 2.5-times zoom lens features zoom macro capability for close-up shooting at any focal length at the minimum focusing distance of 65 centimeters (2.15 feet) for the maximum magnification of 0.17 times at telephoto end. Covering the wide-angle to medium-telephoto range, it can be used for a wide variety of subjects, including landscapes, snapshots, portraits and action scenes, especially in and around the water. The perfect positioning of a large zoom lever makes image size adjustment quick and effortless.

3. Reliable full-automatic operation

Thanks to its advanced multi-pattern metering and high-precision autofocus system, the ESPIO95WR produces beautifully exposed, crisply focused images frame after frame even under difficult lighting conditions, such as backlight. The reliable passive five-point autofocus system with a wide focus frame assures pinpoint focus on the subject, even when two subjects are apart from each other or when the subject is behind a window glass. The Spot AF mode is also available to avoid unwanted objects in the foreground and pinpoint the focus on the main subject.

4. Multi-function auto zoom flash

When the metering system detects low-light or backlight situations, the built-in zoom flash automatically provides fill-in illumination, while adjusting the angle of discharge in proportion to the selected focal length. With ISO400 film, this high-power flash can even illuminate the subject standing five meters (?? feet) away. It also offers the red-eye reduction mode and simplifies daylight sync, slow-shutter sync and bulb sync applications. For situations where the use of a flash is prohibited, or for ambient-light shooting at night or in dimly lit locations, a flash-off mode is also provided.

5. Actual-image zoom viewfinder

The viewfinder automatically adjusts the size of the image area in proportion to the selected focal length. It also switches to the close-distance compensation frame when shooting close-ups, or to the panorama frame when the panorama mode is selected. In addition, the AF frame is automatically compensated to match the selected focal length (wide-to-standard or standard-to-telephoto) or the AF mode (Five-Point AF or Spot AF) in use. The built-in diopter adjustment mechanism can be used to adjust the viewfinder image to the photographers eyesight within the range of -3m-1 and +1m-1.

6. Effortless push-button control

The large control buttons located around the LCD panel allow for swift and effortless selection of most features and functions, such as flash status, self-timer operation and AF mode selection.

7. Panorama mode with mid-roll switching

The panorama mode, ideal for capturing breathtaking landscapes or eye-catching group pictures, can be selected for any frame with a quick twist of the panorama lever.

8. Multi-information LCD panel

An informative LCD panel with large icons and numerals provides useful data to facilitate speedy operations and minimize operational errors.

9. Self-timer

The built-in electronic self-timer delays shutter release by 10 seconds, allowing the user to take a self-portrait or join in a group shot.

10. Auto lens retraction

When the camera is left unused for three minutes (or five minutes in the remote-control mode), the lens is automatically retracted to the shortest wide-angle position to protect it from damage.

11. Remote control (optional)

The ESPIO95WR can be operated remotely using one of two remote controllers. The standard type offers the convenience of three-second-delay shutter release, while the zoom type provides the same remote shutter release convenience plus three-step zooming control (at 38mm, 65mm and 95mm settings).

12. Data recording with ESPIO95WR DATE model (optional)

The ESPIO95WR DATE automatically records the date or day and time of shooting on the photograph and even adjusts the position of data imprinting for the panorama mode. It also comes equipped with an LCD panel which offers a wider range of information than the non-DATE model.
